The Museum is Temporarily Closed
The Knox Historical Museum closed to the public March 31, 2023, temporarily, due to the Municipal Building, in which the museum is housed, having scheduled a complete renovation, including removal of all internal structures.
The museum has not closed as an institution and will continue research and genealogy services via e-mail and postal mail, but we are not permitted to have public traffic in our temporary facilities.

Help Us Move the Museum!
The Knox Historical Museum needs to move its entire collection.
This temporary move is due to the planned complete renovation of the Barbourville Municipal Building taking place in the spring of 2023 and beyond.
The Knox Historical Museum, Inc. is a 501(c)-3 nonprofit organization that operates from the generous donations of patrons and from the sale of items calendars, books, and other items from its Museum Store.
If you'd like to make a donation to help us with the expenses incurred by the Museum to move its collection, you may make a safe and secure online donation using our PayPal account by clicking on the Donate button below. You do not need to have a PayPal account to make a donation.

Your gift will be used for our daily operational purposes and will be classified as unrestricted funds unless otherwise indicated. Important Shipping Information
Our Museum is staffed by Volunteers and our hours of operations currently are such that our Volunteer staff members are only able to check for Online Orders once per week. Typically on either Tuesday or Thursday.
This means that online orders may not be shipped for up to 10 days after your order is placed. PLEASE give our Volunteer staff the time to process your order and ship it out to you. We will do our best to ship all orders as quickly as possible. Before you ask PayPal for a refund due to non-shipment, please send us an e-mail first to ask about your order's status.

Welcome to the Knox Historical Museum
Donation to Museum of items about Frances Jones Mills
Items pertaining to Frances Jones Mills, a native of Gray in Knox County, Kentucky, were donated to the Knox Historical Museum on December 11, 2017.
Mrs. Mills was a state official in Kentucky for a large portion of the 1970s and 1980s. According to Wikipedia, "she was the first woman and first Democrat in the 20th century to win the office of State Representative for the Knox County, Kentucky district. She was also the first woman to serve three (non-successive) terms as Kentucky State Treasurer."
Catalog covers of the Daniel Boone Festival
Here's the museum's collection of the covers of catalogs from the Daniel Boone Festival in Barbourville, Kentucky.
The KHM's collection contains nearly all the catalogs from 1961 through the present and one program from 1954.
Early settler Nasby Mills, June Miller Gatliff, and others featured in The Knox Countian magazine
Two new issues of The Knox Countian magazine, under the guidance of editor Charles Reed Mitchell, were published this summer.
Both issues are available for purchase in the Knox Historical Museum's online Museum Store, which is found under the "Support Us" tab..

Meet the Museum Officers and Staff for 2018
Several active staff members and board directors of the Knox Historical Museum met June 21, 2017 to discuss a wide range of topics, including establishing a building fund to ensure the museum's future. More on this in the near future as committees research and plan.
The late William Dishman to be featured in KHM magazine
William M. Dishman, Jr., a member of one of Knox County’s most distinguished families and longtime friend of the Knox Historical Museum, passed away 29 November 2016 at the age of 80. Whenever business occasioned a return to Barbourville from his home in Danville, Kentucky, where he practiced law for some 48 years, Bill made it a point to visit the museum. As museum staff member David Cole recently observed, former residents who return to find downtown Barbourville changed and adjusted to the times can find the Barbourville of their memories at the museum. Bill often would spend several hours talking and reminiscing with the editor and museum staff about his family and his earlier years in town.
